There will be a special feel to the 1st home game of the season and this Saturday, there will be many more reasons to come along to the Rectory Field and support Askeans against old rivals Brockleians
AGM & 100 Club Draw
We will be having our AGM at I.00 pm, an opportunity to find out and support Askeans’ progress.
The 100 Club Draw will then occur at 1.20 pm - if you are not already a member, you can join for just £5 a month – Further details from Paul Walsh on padrianwalsh@gmail.com.
A special ‘Open Day’
We are featuring the day as an ‘Open Day’ for
Askeans Members and Supporters
We had a great summer of events – Pre-Match Buffets, Pub Quiz Evenings, Curry Nights – You will see in our Calendar of Events that we will have more social afternoons and evening
Do come along on Saturday and start off the season by meeting your old playing pals, especially at the excellent Pre-Match buffet (Just £10) as well as our current players.
Players – ‘#PitchUpForRugby
Ian Lunn, Director of Rugby has spearheaded an excellent recruitment drive over the summer and today we extend a warm welcome to all players.
We are a grass roots club with a proud history, playing at the historical Rectory Field – one of the best grounds in London.
Perhaps -
you haven’t played since school or university or
you play occasionally and would like to play more regularly
you are just looking to move onto a club with excellent playing and social facilities.
Interested? Then come along and meet us for an excellent afternoon – We will be delighted to see you!
Greenwich Students
We will also extend a special welcome to Greenwich Students. We have forged a special relationship with University of Greenwich RFC in recent years and are delighted that current students train and play with us, and past students have remained and become stalwarts of Askeans!
Volunteers
Like many ‘Grass roots clubs’, Askeans exists because of the efforts of volunteers, none more so than our irrepressible Director of Rugby, Ian Lunn, whose efforts have been recognised - He is a Finalist in the National Volunteer Awards to be held at RFU HQ, Twickenham.
Perhaps you would like to be a volunteer, enabling Askeans to support rugby playing in Greenwich and South London?
For past players, it’s a way of giving something back to your club at one of the best grounds in London
And for those who are not past players, it’s a way of enabling community participation in healthy recreation, through the playing of rugby.
To find out more about becoming a volunteer, please contact either Ian Lunn, Director of Rugby on ianlunn@hotmail.com or Paul Walsh on padrianwalsh@gmail.com;
Official opening of the Mike Lalley Shed
It is just over 2 years ago that we stated our charity, ‘Friends of Askean RFC’, as a result of a generous donation from Mike Lalley. During the summer, Ian Johns masterminded the sourcing, procurement and installation of a shed at Rectory Field, which will enable us to store playing and training gear and memorabilia in our own storage facility at the Rectory Field. Its purchase has been funded by ‘Friends’ and on Saturday 24th September, the ‘Mike Lalley Shed’ will be officially opened - by our Guest of Honour - Mike Lalley
